'cation Time!

Yes, folks, we are on 'cation (that's Colorado Rocky lingo for "vacation" for those of you in the dark). It's mahhh-velous. We aren't particularly beach people, but we can hear the ocean from out bedroom and are having the time of our lives. After such a season of working and rushing, this feels like a slice of the millennium. Minus Jesus walking on the earth, of course.

Funny how everyone thinks a family of 5 headed to Florida on ann airplane has GOT to be destined for Disney. I think every flight attendant we came in contact with said something corny like, "Tell Mickey Mouse hello!" Zion just looked at them as if they had missed their meds. What a weird world we live in. We got to Orlando, picked up our rental (a Grand Marquis, which goes with the WalMart hat Randy wanted!) and began our trek east.

First off we found a SuperTarget (because we wanted to feel like we were at home) to get some needed supplies - beach shoes, chips. salsa, coffee maker. We forgot Zion's swimmy thing that keeps him afloat, so lest he be swept out to sea, we headed for the clearance beach aisle. Yep, even in Florida beach stuff is on clearance. Being the practical mom, I chose a heavy duty swim vest and offered it to son #3 as the coolest thing on the planet. He didn't bite. He actually told me, "Nope, I wouldn't wear any of those - 'cept THAT one". Well "that one" was SpiderMan and I KNEW what we believed about Super Heroes. I put on my best Ezzo face and told him, "No, can't get Spidey, but look at these cute neon green ones, ZZ!" He was polite, but stated again how SpiderMan was the coolest (he's never even seen the show, mind you). Then something took over -- I became more John Eldgredge and James Dobson and thought, what the heck, he plays with sword and guns too, who am I to keep him from being a super hero?? I threw SpiderMan in the cart and off we went to the food section. We got fun juices to make slushies in the blender (thank you Tracie Loux!!!) and in the adult beverage department, decided on the Kona Blend grind-it-while-you-wait and some cocoa and half and half for a fun beach treat.

We have spent most of the time in the ocean itself, where Grayson somehow got stung by a jellyfish. That's our deduction from looking at emedicine.com Where is Josh Cone when you need him? Nothing like a self-diagnosis and treatment! A little vineger and he will be as good as new. Jackson is quite the body surfer - who knew? And Zion's favorite past time is the art of shelling (it's hereditary, I'm convinced). If anyone knows of a good spot for shelling withing an hour of Daytona, please comment.

Today we will probably venture over to the Daytona Flea Market. Gotta introduce the kids to good American culture while they are young. Should prove to be interesting if not downright fun.

Hmmm.....what should I do now......a mocha on the deck or on the sand? Sandcastles or boogy boarding? Oh, decisions, decisions!

Drive waaaay south of Daytona... where you can't drive on the beach anymore.. . tons of rocks and such... I haven't been in years but we used to find all kinds of shells there. you'll know your in the right place where you see reddish rocks go almost up to the water... but there is still sand. New Smyrna Beach areas. There is a visitor center near there somewhere.

You can't drive ON the beach on all the areas there... there is a parking lot... its past all the touristy stuff... just get in the grandpa mobile (hee hee) and keep driving south on 1. Also Ponce Inlet is a cool area. If you guys want to wander the area and get away from all the hotels on the beach. ;)
