I was made to take this city........

It's been over two years since I have walked through the streets of Washington DC, but tonight I felt like I owned it. Lauren Fraser and I came to attend a solemn assembly sponsored by the ReignDownUSA folks and thought we would take a couple extra days to scope out the land. We decided Abraham Lincoln looks better in the dark, so we took an overpriced taxi down to the memorials. As we walked back towards the Washington Monument, we broke out in a spontaneous prayer walk. It was awesome -- this is what I was made for!

We prayed for TheCall DC '08, calling upon God's mercy to gather a million of His friends to stand in the gap for America. We found ourselves at the World War II Memorial, calling out the name of each state, asking the Lord to release young ones once again who would go to war, giving their lives in prayer and fasting for the sake of the nation. We called out for the house of prayer to be established in this city, asking for buildings, property and an army of young people.

I found myself with tears brimming the edges of my eyes as I looked toward the Capitol Building lit up in the night, knowing that the Lord is desiring partners in this hour. I can't help but wonder what time it is in America -- time to push back the judgments, or to welcome them as His mercy in calling us back to His heart.

Abraham Lincoln spoke it with such poetry in his second inaugural address, almost like a prayer:

"Fondly do we hope, fervently do we pray, that this mighty scourge of war might speedily pass away. Yet if God wills that it continue....until every drop of blood drawn by the lash shall be paid by another drawn with the sword, as was said three thousand years ago, so still it must be said, 'The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether'."
