It was great to meet with our e12 last night after almost the whole summer. It ended up being an e15 which was WAY cool. New members of the group include folks from California to Texas to DC. We love these people! In the midst of a bunch of kids in and out throughout the night, we managed to stray from the notes to discuss regeneration vs. recreation of the earth, the decrees of 445 vs. 458 BC as the beginning of the 490 years, Satan on Mt. Zion (Ex. 28), sin in the millennium, the wicked dead in Rev. 20:5 and will coffee actually be better during the thousand year reign?
My take away from the night was this -- the debate about numbers and years can really throw people off. If we focus on the "wrangling", we lose sight of the urgent. When an angel shows up and gives the command "KNOW and UNDERSTAND" I think it should make us stop and take notice. We can figure out numbers later, but we definitely need to ask, "What is he talking about? What is so important to know and understand". In this case, it is a matter of life or death for our generation. The end times isn't something to be left to the scholars or the fiction writiers. The Bible is laden with exhortations to be ready, to know, to comprehend, to calculate. This is for our protection, our good, our life.
I challenge you to look at the places where the realm of the heavenly has invaded the earth (via angels, supernatural voices, etc.) and where we have been commanded to know this stuff. And then get to know this stuff. It could mean your very life.
"Gabriel, MAKE THIS MAN UNDERSTAND......" (Dan. 8:16)
"I have come to give you skill to UNDERSTAND....CONSIDER the matter, UNDERSTAND the vision...." (Dan. 9:23)
"I have come to MAKE YOU UNDERSTAND..." (Dan. 9:14)
Obviously this was kind of important.
"Let the reader UNDERSTAND.." (Matt. 24:15)
"CALCULATE the number...." (Rev. 13:18)
Wreslte. Have wisdom. Understand. Pursue. Dig. Pray. Ask. Comprehend. Calculate. Figure. Study. Go for it.
